High School vs College Senior Portraits: What Is Different?

High school vs college senior portraits both mark a chapter change. The energy is different, the timelines are different, and the way seniors want to be seen is often different too.
I photograph both across Orlando and Central Florida. Here is how we think about high school vs college senior portraits, so families and grads can choose the right kind of session.
High school senior sessions
High school sessions are often planned with a parent and the senior together. Yearbook deadlines, social posts, and graduation announcements all sit in the background. The goal is usually a mix of personality and polished portraits that still feel like a teenager, not a stiff school-day photo.
- More outfit variety is common
- Parents often help with scheduling and locations
- Yearbook crops can matter
- Sessions can feel more guided if the senior is camera-shy
Our Signature package is built for this. Ninety to 120 minutes, up to two nearby locations, and two to three outfits gives us time to settle in and get real variety.
College senior and grad sessions
College seniors often book for themselves. They usually want images that work for graduation posts, LinkedIn, family announcements, and a clean record of this season of life. The session can be shorter and more focused, or longer if they want campus energy plus lifestyle frames.
- Fewer looks, stronger intention
- Cap and gown is often important
- Professional-but-personal is a common goal
- Scheduling may revolve around classes, work, or travel home
Our Essential package is a strong fit for many college grads: 45 to 60 minutes, one location, one to two outfits. If they want a bigger story, Signature or Extended still works beautifully.
What stays the same for both
Whether the senior is 17 or 22, the standard does not change. We plan carefully, guide posing so nobody has to guess, and deliver professionally edited images with a personal print release. Amy often joins us on set because comfort is half the photograph.
Which package should you choose?
- Essential ($495): simpler sessions and many college grads
- Signature ($745): most high school seniors
- Extended ($995): multi-location stories, more outfits, priority gallery delivery
