I photograph high school and college seniors across Orlando with my wife Amy. Here is the practical advice we give every family before we meet.

Start with who they are

The best outfits are the ones they already feel good wearing. If they love a letterman jacket, a favorite dress, or a clean set of jeans and sneakers, start there. Forced fashion almost always shows up in the photos.

Colors that work for Orlando senior portraits

  • Soft neutrals, earth tones, and mid-tones usually look great outdoors.
  • Rich colors like navy, rust, olive, cream, and dusty blue photograph cleanly.
  • Avoid large logos and busy patterns that steal attention from the face.
  • All white can work, but it is harder to expose next to bright sky or concrete.
  • Neon colors can cast odd tones on skin in strong sun.

How many outfits to bring

Match the number of looks to your session length:

  • Essential (45 to 60 minutes): one to two complete outfits.
  • Signature (90 to 120 minutes): two to three outfits.
  • Extended (2+ hours): three to four outfits, including optional cap and gown.

A complete outfit means top, bottom, shoes, and any layers. Accessories count. Half-finished looks slow the session down.

Florida weather changes fast. A light jacket, button-down, or cardigan gives us variety without a full wardrobe swap. Choose clothes you can walk, sit, and laugh in. If it pinches when you sit down, it will bother you on camera.

Shoes matter more than people think

We often move between grass, sidewalks, and parking areas. Bring one pair that is comfortable for walking and one pair that finishes a dressier look if needed. Dirty soles and brand-new blister shoes both cause problems.

What to leave at home

  • Wrinkled pieces you have not tried on recently
  • Anything see-through in bright sunlight
  • Heavy costumes that only work for one forced pose
  • Props that do not mean anything to the senior

Cap and gown tips

If graduation is close, bring the gown even if you are not sure you want it. We can keep those frames classic and quick. Steam it the night before and bring the tassel and stole if you have them.
