A great senior session starts before anyone picks up a camera. The seniors who feel the most confident on set are usually the ones who handled a few simple things the day before and the morning of. Here is how to prepare for your senior portrait session.

This is the preparation checklist we share with high school and college seniors in Orlando before every shoot.

One or two days before your senior portrait session

  • Try on every outfit, including shoes.
  • Steam or iron anything wrinkled.
  • Confirm the meeting spot and parking plan.
  • Check the weather and have a backup layer if needed.
  • Get a normal night of sleep if you can. It shows.

Grooming that photographs well

Keep grooming close to how the senior normally looks, just refined. Fresh haircut a week ahead often works better than the morning of. For makeup, think natural and lasting. Heavy foundation can look heavy in bright Florida light.

Bring blotting papers, a comb, hair ties, and any product you already trust. Amy often helps with small on-set fixes so nobody has to stress alone in a parking lot mirror.

What to pack

  • Outfits on hangers when possible
  • Shoes for each look
  • Water bottle
  • Optional props only if they matter (instrument, sports gear, college apparel)
  • Cap and gown if graduation is near

Day-of mindset

You do not need to know how to pose. That is my job. Show up a few minutes early, put the phone away when we start, and be willing to move, laugh, and try again. The best frames often happen right after someone stops trying so hard.

Encouragement helps. Over-directing does not. If you join the session, be the calm support. We will guide wardrobe order, timing, and posing so the senior can stay present.
